Clare Walker Coaching Conversations

Introduction

As a Professional Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation, I help people realise their potential, improve their prospects and eliminate blockers that are stopping them from progressing to their life goals. This may include career moves, feelings of anxiety, conflict in relationships or many other of life’s hurdles.

I will create a confidential safe space, allowing you to talk and think uninterrupted and without judgement. I will focus on listening to you wholeheartedly, allowing for some amazingly powerful questions to surface which can help you to look at situations with new perspectives, create a different way of thinking and unlock potential to allow you to live your desired, fulfilling life.

What coaching is about

Steven Covey said “Most people don’t listen with the intent to understand, they listen with the intent to reply”.
After all, when were you last given a good listening to?!

During our conversations, I will listen to where you are now, and we will work towards where you want to be.

There is no raking over the past, no ripping off plasters, no digging into ‘why’ things happened. After all – things happened, we can’t change them now.

Coaching is not therapy, it’s not counselling and it’s not psychology. Coaching is about unlocking your potential so you can be the best version of you, always.

What can we talk about?

We can cover any topic or behaviour that you want to change, improve or condemn to life’s rubbish heap!

Nothing is off limits and, as long as this is about you, we can start to take steps to get you to a better, happier, more fulfilling place.

Motivation

Oh dear! We’ve all been there haven’t we!

That task that we know needs doing, but we just can’t bring ourselves to even start on it! So it sits there and ticks away in the back of our mind like an alarm clock just waiting to go off. Through our conversations we will find out what the benefits are of doing the task, what the benefits are of not doing the task and how we can turn the task on it’s head that makes it palatable. If you want to read a really great book about motivation “Eat That Frog” by Brian Tracy gives some fantastic tips.

Perspectives

We all have a rule book that we run our life from.

The problem is that we very rarely show that rule book to anyone else, so when they do something that goes against one of our rules it can cause conflict. Sometimes looking at a situation or ourselves from different perspectives can give us new information and understanding. It is a very powerful talent to have!

Relationships

One of my clients had not had a good relationship with her father since she was about 15 years old.

She still couldn’t really talk to him and she felt there was an invisible wall between them. Now at 50 she wanted to resolve things but didn’t know how. In the space of one coaching conversation, she saw with clarity what she needed to do and, within a week, she went to lunch with him, later calling me to say she was so sorry she had missed out on the 35 years in between.

Confidence

Do you see other people around you being the life and soul of the party, getting on at work because they ‘know how to talk to people’ or can do anything they want because nothing seems to bother them.

A low level of confidence can come alongside low self esteem, insecure thinking or just because you are naturally introverted. If you need a little more confidence to reach your goal, or to allow you to progress, come and have a conversation where can take small steps (tiny if we need to) that move you towards where you want to be.

Phobias

Whether it’s a food, a situation or a ‘not knowing’.

Fears and phobias can take over your life and not only stop you from doing what you need or want to do, but can also have knock on affects such as stress and anxiety. Working together we will investigate what is causing the uncomfortable feelings and find a way to overcome it. I have worked with a number of clients whose phobias include spiders, needles, flying and presenting in front of colleagues.

Stress and Anxiety

These are both feelings that can make us physically and mentally agitated.

Many people end up visiting their GP and are given pills that can be addictive and damaging  in the long term. Through conversation, breathing and exercises we can work towards a calmer outlook where your ‘internal weather system’ can be set to a temperature you are happy with, regardless of what is happening on the outside.

My Credentials and Certifications

Most of us spend too much time on what is urgent and not enough time on what is important.

  • Steven Covey

Who is coaching for?

No matter whether you are company director, a mum with a busy life, someone with an unbalanced work/life situation, or anyone who feels ‘stuck’, a coaching conversation can help.

A coach does for the rest of your life what a personal trainer does for your health and fitness.

– Elaine MacDonald

Who, exactly, seeks out a coach?

Winners who want even more out of life.

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment. Imagine having the opportunity to live as the best version of yourself.

– Ralph Waldo Emerson

There are no failures – just experiences and your reactions to them.

In a growth mindset, challenges are exciting rather than threatening. So rather than thinking, oh, I’m going to reveal my weaknesses, you say, wow, here’s a chance to grow

– Carol Dweck, author of Mindset

Anxiety, fear or stress – we are supposed to have them. It’s our bodies way of making sure we’re paying attention.

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone

– Neale Donald Walsh

How will I change?

When you start to take notice of your own thoughts, your emotions and reactions will change. This puts you in full control

Everybody is a Genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid

– Albert Einstein

What will be different?

You will have kitbag of tools that allow you to see things differently, have clarity in chaos and be able to choose how you react to what’s going on around you.

If you believe you only have a hammer, you will see everything as a nail

– anon

What if I don’t do this?

Albert Einstein said “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.“ Turn it on it’s head – if you don’t explore the results you want, how will anything ever change?

Coaching is unlocking people’s potential to maximize their own performance. It is more often helping them to learn rather than teaching them.

– Sir John Whitmore

What’s the worst that can happen?

Nothing! We will only look forward to possibilities and potential. If you choose not to take action, nothing will change.

I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.

– Stephen R. Covey

How will Coaching help me?

It will give you options, open opportunities, allow you to see life from a different angle and understand some of life’s wonders.

You can’t stop negative thoughts from coming in, but you can make sure they leave as quickly as they enter.

– Nkem Mpamah

Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re probably right. Change your thinking, see what happens.

Ready to get started?

All my coaching engagements start with a free, no obligation chat (called a chemistry meeting) which lasts 20 – 30 mins.
This can be done on the phone, laptop or face to face – it’s totally up to you.
